Burberry makes the best trench coats. That is a fact. Nobody should even dispute that. I don't think they even MAKE leather jackets. D&G will make great quality and stylish stuff, but it won't be the best leather jacket. The best leather jacket is probably not even from a famous brand (if any brand). Your best bet is to look around a nice city. Check thrift stores, department stores (like Saks, Nordstroms, Macy's etc.). Eventually you'll find the perfect jacket for you. Just make sure it's of great quality and that it'll last a lifetime. If not, then why bother spending a few hundred dollars on something that will rip in a weekend. My son has a nice leather jacket that got caught in his bike chain when he had it tied around his waist biking home. The tear started at the cuff of the pocket and has torn 2 or 3 inches toward the front near the zipper

What's the best way to repair it? It does have a liner. Is anything better than just using duct tape on the inside?

I have a black leather jacket that I have worn for 4 or 5 winters. It has not been treated to make it water resistant. I have worn it in the pouring ran and heavy snow and no visilble damage. Of course when I get home I usually hang it up where it can dry appropriatley.

All depends on the style, if you are talking about your typical leather biker jacket with patches and buckles you can kill the cow with then (1) - but a well cut LONG BLACK (not that lekker washed brown look) then (3)

It's a nice idea for a present but to be honest it's very important that motorbike jackets fit well so it would be best to take him to the store with you. Leathers should be very tight - if they're loose they will tear more easily when you hit the tarmac and will not provide proper protection. The only way to guarantee a proper fit is to try them on - even when I was in the Hein Gerike store trying on lots of jacket of the same size and make, the difference it fit was amazing. Some were perfect, others were terrible. So take him to the store with you otherwise you may end up wasting your money.

I really like my Hein Gericke kit, otherwise consider Alpinestars, Joe Rocket, Richa etc - there are many brands to choose from.

I also suggest when paying for online purchases, don't use Paypal, it takes just once to be a victim. I was and it took 3 years to get my credit. Use your Credit Card, always, they can help you if any disputes.
AND beware of international shipping, they could add 3-25% extra fees, even if the price is cheap.
My merchant was from Texas, but the product was shipped from Hong Kong.
Other times, when you need to call Customer Service, they speak in foreign tongue and no one to translate them or JUST they don't answer calls.

I like it when the jacket has a lot of embellishments, like a really nice biker jacket with the buckles and everything. something that looks kinda ruffed up and worn. i dont really like the clean leather look, but of course everyone's taste is different so go with what you feel comfortable in.
