How do you clean a leather jacket at home?

Leather doesnt like water right? I need to clean it really well...someone spilled food all over it and I was afraid to put water on it so there is literally food caked up all over it. Its a very expensive jacket too so I would rather not take chances with something that may not work. FYI, the dry cleaners wont take it.

I am a professional leather cleaner. why isn't the dry cleaner accepting it? Do Not clean it at home, and Do not put saddle soap on it. The cost of the jacket does not matter at this point, the longer the stain sets the less chance the cleaner will have of removing it. Send it to a professional leather cleaner, most dry cleaners send out their work so check around. My Company is called Allegheny Leather Care, if you don't have any luck maybe you can ship it to us for us to clean.

Please do not use saddle soap it may do it a lot of damage.

If it is a lambskin with the wool still on it it will have to be treated like suede and also needs a good wterproofing protector on it to help stop this kind of thing happening. If you use saddle soap on this type of leather you will ruin it.

Okay so a friend of my moms gives me and my sis some clothes from like garage sales and such. I wound up with this awesome beautiful leather jacket. but it smells soooo bad! like someone just out their cigarettes butts out on the animal and then tore it's skin off! i don't want to pay $40 on getting it cleaned unless i absolutely have to. Can i toss it in the washer? i already tried air-ing it out, gentle cleaners, leather cleaners and spraying it with some air freshener. help!!!!

For the love of God, don't throw it in the washer. I'm sorry to say that you're just gonna have to bite the bullet, and take it to the cleaners. One good thing about it thought is that you can't buy a good leather jacket for over 100.00, so you really got a good deal since it was free.
