Q. My son has a nice leather jacket that got caught in his bike chain when he had it tied around his waist biking home. The tear started at the cuff of the pocket and has torn 2 or 3 inches toward the front near the zipper
What's the best way to repair it? It does have a liner. Is anything better than just using duct tape on the inside?

How do I repair a small tear on a leather jacket?
Q. The tear does not go all the way through. Is there anything I can use to repair it? or what places will do a repair job?
A. for best results I would go to a taylor. They do make a liquid leather for leather and vinyl repai, but I would not recommend it
How much would repairing a rip in a leather jacket cost?
Q. My boyfriend ripped his new leather jacket. The tear is relatively clean (not frayed), and about 3-4 inches long. The liner underneath is not ripped. Any idea on a quote, and timeframe? I don't want to take it to the tailer, when it would be cheaper to get a new jacket.
A. I took mine to a shoe repair place that advertised that they also fix other leather items. They used an adhesive that was applied to the inside and even though I know where the tear is (which was about the same size as yours), I have trouble finding it. My coat is very thin leather, the repair was only $20, and I got it back in a couple of days. Some things are best done by professionals, and I wouldn't even think of attempting something like that on an expensive garment. You'd have to find a tailor that worked with leather and it's really a simple process, just not one you want to try yourself, so I'd check your local yellow pages to find someone.
How can I repair a 1/4 inch tear in my leather jacket? See below for more details.?
Q. The rip occurred when my sleeve got snagged on a door post. The rip is all the way through (you can see the cloth liner inside). Is there a kind of glue that can be used? Any suggestions you might have will be appreciated.
A. This is the sort of thing I'd take to a leather specialist... I suspect it's going to be barge cement for a cheap fix or replacing all or part of the sleeve for the "better fix". (I'd consider putting a trim piece over the hole myself).
Motorcycle shops usually know who are the good leatherworkers in the area.
